The Princess of Wales made a public appearance in Scotland on a Sunday, accompanied by her husband, Prince William, and their son, Prince George. Kate wore a brown checked trench coat from Holland Cooper and a Hicks & Brown feathered hat, which puzzled many royal fans due to the wintery attire in the middle of summer. Despite the confusion from fans, the royal family’s outfits reflected the cooler temperatures of Scotland rather than the typical summer weather.
Many fans took to social media to express their confusion over the Princess’ clothing choice during the summer months. Questions were raised about whether the UK experiences cold weather year-round and if it was already autumn in the region. Some fans from warmer climates, like California, were baffled by the choice of fall clothing in the summertime. The average temperature in London during summer is around 23C (73F), but in Scotland, temperatures are typically cooler, explaining the choice of autumnal coats and jackets.
Kate accessorized her outfit with gold statement earrings, complementing her checked coat and fedora hat. Queen Camilla and the Duchess of Edinburgh also embraced the cooler temperatures with their attire. Camilla, 77, wore an emerald-hued jacket with red tartan detailing, paired with a matching feathered hat, while the King donned a kilt for the occasion. The royal family’s fashion choices reflected the weather conditions in Aberdeenshire on Sunday, with cloudy skies and temperatures ranging from 9C to 16C (48F to 60F).
The Prince and Princess of Wales spent the Bank Holiday weekend in Scotland with their three children before the start of the school term. Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis will be returning to Lambrook School next month, with George starting Year 7, Charlotte beginning Year 5, and Louis entering Year 2. The royal family also enjoyed some time at their Norfolk residence, Anmer Hall, during the school summer holidays, engaging in activities like playing with nerf guns at Bear Grylls’ Gone Wild Festival at Holkham Hall.
Kate appeared in a video message with William in August to congratulate Team GB on their success at the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, her public duties are currently on hold as she continues to undergo cancer treatment. In a personal update from June, Kate mentioned that she was making progress with her treatment but still faced challenges with “good days and bad days.” Despite working from home, she acknowledged that she was not yet in the clear and would need more time for recovery.
