In “We’ve Had a Good Cry,” the alliances in The Decameron are put to the test, and the fate of each character is determined. Sirisco, the keeper of the villa, emerges largely unscathed from the chaos, despite facing challenges to his leadership. While some of his comrades meet tragic ends, Sirisco perseveres and finds a sense of belonging among the final group of survivors. His resilience in the face of adversity showcases his inner strength and determination.
Pampinea, the most hateable character in the series, meets a fitting demise after causing chaos and harm throughout The Decameron. Her schemes and manipulations ultimately lead to her death, as her handmaid Misia orchestrates her demise in a fiery end. Pampinea’s story serves as a cautionary tale against greed and selfishness.
Filomena and Licisca, the newfound half-sisters, emerge as survivors of both the plague and the mercenaries’ attack. Their touching story of redemption and reconciliation serves as a beacon of hope amid the chaos and tragedy. The bond between Filomena and Licisca remains a central theme throughout the series, highlighting the power of familial love and forgiveness.
